Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a hilarious reason for refusing to eat the post-game cake he received after leading his team to victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day.
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs cruised to a 29-10 victory over the Steelers on Wednesday to lock up the AFC’s top seed. The Chiefs are assured a first-round bye and need just two home victories to return to the Super Bowl for the fifth time in six years.
Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce were awarded red velvet cakes in the shape of footballs after Wednesday’s victory. When presented the cakes by reporter Stacey Dales, Mahomes hilariously stated that he couldn’t eat it because he’s watching his weight for the postseason:

Patrick Mahomes had a field day against the Steelers, completing 29 of 38 pass attempts for 320 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Kelce had eight receptions for a game-high 84 yards and one touchdown.
The Chiefs will presumably rest their key starters for Week 18 against the Denver Broncos with the No. 1 seed locked up. Mahomes has been nursing an ankle injury he suffered in Week 15 against the Cleveland Browns, so the Chiefs would be wise to let him rest up until their Divisional Round game.
Patrick Mahomes & Chiefs Are Cruising Into Playoffs
The Chiefs have played in every AFC Championship Game since 2018, the year Mahomes took over as the starting quarterback. They’ve played in four of the last five Super Bowls, emerging victorious in three of them.
And despite a string of injuries to key players throughout the season, Andy Reid’s group has conquered adversity time and time and time again. With all that playoff experience and championship pedigree, the Chiefs unquestionably look like the team to beat heading into the 2024-25 postseason.
