Super Bowl MVP Foles advises Hurts on how to lead the Birds to promised land

Nick Foles played the game of his life in the Eagles’ 41-33 victory in Super Bowl LII over the New England Patriots.

He threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns, outdueling Tom Brady, and caught a touchdown pass during the now-famous “Philly Special” play.

Foles talked about what he would tell the man who will quarterback the Eagles in the Super Bowl, Jalen Hurts, as he heads into his first one.

“Just do what he’s been doing,” said Foles. “He’s been doing an awesome job. He’s had an MVP caliber year.”

Hurts has completed 66.5% of his passes for 3,701 yards, 22 touchdown passes and six interceptions this regular season, while also rushing for 760 yards and 13 touchdowns.

But Foles said that more importantly, Hurts has been a leader of a team he can trust.

“They respond to him, and you can tell when he steps on the field, there’s a huge effect to the game, said Foles.

“He doesn’t have to do it himself. He has great players around him. He’s got a great [offensive] line. He’s got a great [defense]. He’s got a great team, so just go do your part and you’re going to be fine.”

Foles’ center in Super Bowl LII will be the starting center in the 57th edition of the big game, Jason Kelce. Foles also has experience playing with the other Kelce suiting up in Super Bowl LVII, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

“I was in Kansas City with Trav,” said Foles, who was a Chiefs quarterback in 2016.

“Those two guys are two of the best players in the NFL at their position, if not the best, and definitely different personalities. But it’s going to be fun. It’ll be emotional for them. It’ll be emotional for both teams, but it’ll be a great game to watch.”

Foles also feels a special connection with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who served in the same role in Philadelphia and took the Eagles to Super Bowl XXXIX in February 2005.

“Andy drafted me,” said Foles, who was a third-round draft pick for Philadelphia in 2012. “I played for him in Kansas City. It’ll be a really awesome Super Bowl. I think it’ll be close.”

Foles spent this past season with the Indianapolis Colts, starting two games.
