Worthy was flagged after scoring the Chiefs’ first touchdown.
The Kansas City Chiefs are playing their second straight Christmas Day game and got off to a great start. Rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy found the end zone on the first drive of the game to put K.C. up 6-0 (Harrison Butker missed the extra point).
After the play, however, a flag was thrown for unsportsmanlike conduct. The flag was thrown on Worthy for part of what he did during his celebration, as it looked as though he was holstering a gun. That’s likely why the flag was thrown, as the officials probably don’t want to encourage anything gun-related in celebrations.
Social media had all kinds of reactions to the flag being thrown. Let’s check out some of the best reactions.
Did Xavier Worthy get an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for throwing Christmas presents in a bag? pic.twitter.com/bKYiAzJY4l

Worthy’s celebration consisted of him playing the part of Santa and that’s what some fans were confused about. Why are you throwing a flag on Santa Claus? And on CHRISTMAS? The nerve.
NFL refs are the absolute worst.

They sure are.
The “No Fun League” is at it again. Ridiculous “unsportsmanlike conduct” penalty on the TD celebration. #Chiefs get all the calls though.

Yeah, this is a tough loss for the crowd who thinks that Kansas City gets all of the calls.
The other thing that happened on that Xavier Worthy celebration penalty: the referees over-stepped on a subjective penalty that actively hurt the Chiefs for no reason. Does anybody want to have the discourse today? No?

I think we’ve tackled how stupid the flag was at this point.
The broadcast just claimed that Xavier Worthy was flagged for pretending to show a gun on his hip after the celebration. pic.twitter.com/1d6tUE60uw

The super soaker comment had me cracking up.
The important thing is that the Chiefs scored the touchdown and got off to an early lead and then scored on their next drive as well to go up 13-0. If the Chiefs win this game, they’ll clinch the number one seed and then can rest up for a few weeks before their first playoff game.
