Saquon Barkley is having the year of his career in 2024.
The Philadelphia Eagles running back was supposed to have his best years behind him. That’s what the New York Giants seemed to think when they let him walk in free agency, anyway. But Barkley, 27, looks as good as ever in Philadelphia. The Eagles running back passed the 2,000 yards mark in a blowout win over the Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday afternoon.
Barkley, a top-five pick out of Penn State in 2018, could go for Eric Dickerson’s all-time single season rushing record in Week 18. He is exactly 100 yards behind Dickerson’s record of 2,106, meaning he needs 101 yards in Week 18 against, you guess it, the Giants, to break the record.
But will he get there?
Barkley said postgame that he’s not actively thinking about the record. He has a bigger goal in mind, like bringing a Super Bowl to the Eagles.
“I’m not overtly trying to get it. I’m not scared of it. But we’ve got bigger things we’re focused on. Whether we play next week or rest, I’m fine with that. I didn’t sign here just to break a record. I want to do something special with the team,” Barkley said postgame.
Still, it’s been a career year for Barkley. His longtime girlfriend, Anna Congdon, has made sure to highlight her boyfriend’s standout year on social media.
“My fiancé really does this!!!!!!” she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, during Saquon’s standout 2024 season.
Saquon and Anna have been together since their time at Penn State. They have two children together. It appears that they got engaged earlier in 2024, though it’s unclear when and if a wedding has been scheduled.
Anna has been supportive of Saquon’s move to Philadelphia. She and their children had a touching moment with the Eagles running back before kickoff on Sunday.
