Saquon Barkley to seek advice from Eagles legend on excelling in the snow

Philadelphia’s star running back is preparing for the elements.

If anyone knows how to excel in snowy conditions at Lincoln Financial Field in South Philadelphia, it’s Eagles legend LeSean McCoy, also known as “Shady.” McCoy turned in arguably the best performance of his entire career on a snow-soaked Philly field in December of 2013 against the Detroit Lions.

Saquon Barkley is hoping that LeSean McCoy has some snow tips for him

With the field covered in snow, McCoy ran for 217 yards (a franchise record at the time) and two touchdowns, and his production propelled the Eagles to a 34-20 victory over a Lions team that was quarterbacked by Matt Stafford — the same Matt Stafford set to play against Philly as the starting QB of the Los Angeles Rams this weekend.

McCoy’s franchise record of 217 yards stood until earlier this season when Barkley broke it by rushing for 255 yards and two touchdowns against, you guessed it, the Rams. Talk about a full-circle moment.

Considering the success he had in the snow, Saquon Barkley plans to reach out to McCoy for any potential tips or tricks ahead of the matchup with the Rams, which is expected to be subject to some serious snowfall.

“Watching Shady, his highlights, probably one of his most memorable games. He had another one in Buffalo too, where he played in a snow game,” Barkley said. “I’m definitely going to call Shady just in case we do get some snow and see what he did. It don’t make sense how he was able to cut in that snow. You could just see he was on a whole different level.”

McCoy was indeed on a different level that afternoon, and the Lions simply didn’t have an answer for him. Meanwhile, it’s good to hear that Barkley plans to leave no stone unturned when it comes to putting his best foot forward on Sunday. Given the expected conditions, the Eagles are going to need to lean heavily on Barkley to lead them to victory. Expect him to be up to the task.
