Football fans are stunned after learning just how much Philadelphia Eagles star running back Saquon Barkley must pay in taxes.
On Tuesday, less than a month after leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl 59 championship, Barkley agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $41.2 million. The deal includes $36 million in guaranteed money and $15 million in guarantees, and it keeps him signed in Philly through the 2028 campaign.
Barkley still has two years remaining on the three-year, $37.75 million contract he signed with the Eagles in free agency. But as a tremendously wealthy athlete, Barkley has a very high tax bill ahead of him.
As noted by Andrew Petcash of Profluence Sports, Saquon Barkley will only take home $10.9 million of his $20.6 million salary. He’ll pay $7.6 million in federal taxes, a $600,000 agent fee, $613,000 in jock taxes and $482,000 in FICA and Medicare.
