Packers sign UFL pass-rusher Jeremiah Martin

Martin spent the 2024 preseason with the Cleveland Browns

According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Green Bay Packers signed defensive end Jeremiah Martin on Tuesday to their practice squad. Martin, who played college football at Texas A&M and Washington, was an NFL rookie last season. Martin got his start as an undrafted free agent with the Cleveland Browns before signing a reserve/future contract with the New York Giants at the end of the season.

Martin was cut by the Giants after the draft this offseason and re-signed with the Browns for the preseason before being released at the cutdown deadline. Since his release, Martin had signed with the United Football League’s Arlington Renegades, who traded him to the Birmingham Stallions on the same day.

Not much has been seen of Martin since his first-team All-Pac-12 breakout season in 2022 with the Huskies, when he posted 8.5 sacks after recording just one sack in the first four years of his college career combined.

The Packers currently have 17 players on their practice squad, which is all they’re allowed to roster. This means that a corresponding roster move will need to be made to make room for the signing of Martin. At this point, there have been no reports on who is on the way out, but it is worth noting that Deslin Alexandre, who was been on Green Bay’s practice squad this entire season, is the only defensive end in the group.

Per Wilson’s reporting, the Packers also worked out defensive tackle Keith Randolph Jr., who was a member of the Chicago Bears’ roster this preseason, and defensive end David Ugwoegbu on Tuesday alongside Martin. Apparently, Green Bay came into this week with the intent to boost up their defensive line.
