GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers are bringing back a familiar face, re-signing tight end Tyler Davis to a one-year deal worth $1.2 million—just above the NFL’s league minimum salary—on Sunday, the team announced. The move keeps the inspirational special teams stalwart in green and gold after a rollercoaster journey through injury and personal loss.
Davis, 27, has become a fan favorite for his resilience. After tearing his ACL in the 2023 preseason and missing the entire year, he bounced back to play all 17 games in 2024, logging 5 catches for 43 yards while shining on special teams. His story—losing both parents and finding strength in faith and fatherhood—struck a chord, detailed in a Packers.com feature earlier this year. “Every snap’s a gift,” Davis said post-signing.
The deal, a modest bump over the $1.125 million minimum for a five-year vet, reflects a low-risk bet by GM Brian Gutekunst. With Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft locked in as the top tight ends, Davis’ value lies in his special teams chops—he led the team with 337 snaps in 2022 and stayed a key cog in 2024 under Rich Bisaccia. “Tyler’s a glue guy,” Bisaccia told reporters. “He’s earned this.”
With $40 million in cap space left, the Packers could still make waves, but Davis’ return is a quiet win—a testament to grit over glitz at Lambeau.
