Mina Kimes Explains Recent Success Of Chiefs’ Offense

For much of this season, the Kansas City Chiefs were challenged to win games, and although they have won all but one of them, some observers felt it was a harbinger of an early playoff disappointment for them.

But lately, it looks like they have found something that has worked for them on offense, while their defense remains one of the best in the NFL.

Analyst Mina Kimes recently explained how the Chiefs have improved and are starting to make the most of their skill players.

One thing Kimes pointed out is how the Chiefs are running more run-pass option (RPO) sets than they did in the past, and it has been helpful.

Wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who was a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, was typecast as a deep threat due to his incredible downfield speed, but as Kimes said, he has been used more on short passing routes.

His rookie campaign has been up and down, but he has found more consistency lately.

Against the Pittsburgh Steelers, one of the NFL’s better defensive teams, Worthy had eight receptions for 79 yards, both of which were season-highs, as well as a touchdown.

Overall, his reception numbers have been steadily increasing since early November, and on the season he has caught 59 passes for 638 yards and six touchdowns, to go along with three rushing touchdowns.

A few years ago, the Chiefs were known for a high-powered offense that stretched the field vertically, but they evolved into a more conservative offensive squad, and that ability to adapt is one of the more impressive aspects of a dynasty that has yielded three Super Bowl championships in the past five seasons.
