Mahomes Makes Unprecedented NFL History for a Quarterback After Game Against Browns

Patrick Mahomes was not able to close out Sunday’s 21-7 win over the Cleveland Browns at Huntington Bank Field. This was after the reigning Super Bowl MVP suffered an ankle injury in the fourth quarter that forced him to exit the game.

Mahomes was unable to return, with backup quarterback Carson Wentz filling in for the Chiefs star for the remainder of the game.

Despite his day being cut short, Mahomes was still able to make history on Sunday. Shortly after the game, the Chiefs announced that the six-time Pro Bowler now has the most touchdowns (254) before the age of 30 in NFL history.

Mahomes completed 19-of-38 passes on Sunday for 159 yards. His two touchdowns against the Browns were enough for him to pass Hall of Fame QB Peyton Manning for the most touchdowns before turning 30.

As the Chiefs’ post indicated, Mahomes still has a lot more games ahead of him to build on this lead. The former Texas Tech star won’t turn 30 until Sept. 17, 2025.

At this point, however, it remains to be seen if Mahomes will be able to build on his TD record when the Chiefs return to action on Saturday against the Houston Texans.

Kansas City head coach Andy Reid reportedly said after the game that his star quarterback’s ankle is “sore,” but the good news is that it is not broken.

“It’s not broken, that’s all I can tell you,” Reid said. “We’ll have to see how it goes down the road.”

Mahomes also spoke to reporters after the win, and he, too, could not provide much details on the extent of the injury.

“We’ll get into the rehab part, the treatment part and try to get back on a short week,” said Mahomes. “With all the adrenaline from the game, it’s hard to tell now (if he can play). Usually, it’s the day after when you get a good sense of it.”

The Chiefs’ next game will be on Saturday, Dec. 21 before playing again on Wednesday, Dec. 25 on Christmas Day. That will be their third game in 11 days.
