Former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Steven Nelson un-retired to sign with the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday. Nelson retired in the offseason after receiving little interest in opening free agency after playing with the Houston Texans last season.

However, the Chiefs have dealt with multiple cornerback injuries over the last few weeks, and called Nelson, who used to play for him, as a potential help. After a workout on Monday, which came to fruition, it seems that Nelson will likely work quickly to slot into their lineup.

After leaving Kansas City, Nelson signed with the Steelers. He spent 2019 and 2020 with the team before heading to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021. Nelson will start on the Chiefs’ practice squad this time around and work his way up to the active roster.

The 31-year-old cornerback has 456 tackles and 13 interceptions over his ten-year NFL career. A third-round pick out of Oregon State by the Chiefs in the 2015 NFL Draft, Nelson has carved out a long and prosperous career for himself that he hopes can end with a ring this time around.
