Even Julian Edelman can’t deny Chiefs’ status as NFL’s best team in 2024

The Kansas City Chiefs have spent the better part of this season ravaging the Internet’s collective football hive mind. While they may not be dominating teams every week, their penchant for constantly pulling out wins by the seat of their own wit has many declaring them a fraudulent team.

Every team can steal a few lucky wins, but it’s damn near impossible to luck your way into a 15-1 stretch over the course of a season. After such a strong regular season, Kansas City has once again locked up home-field advantage and the No. 1 seed in the AFC.

This team is not as bombastic as they were in past Patrick Mahomes seasons, but that doesn’t mean they will be any less tough to take down in the playoffs. Even former New England Patriots players like Julian Edelman are starting to kiss the ring.

Not only did Edelman declare the Chiefs the best team in football, but he said no close second existed at all. Edelman has played on dynastic teams like this in the past, and he knows what it takes to make a postseason run.

“The Chiefs are the best football team in the United States of America world country and it’s not close. It’s not even close,” he says. He goes on to praise the Chiefs as the unquestioned top franchise in the league in other ways as well.

Part of the reason Edelman may be such a big fan of the Chiefs is the similarity between how Kansas City has been winning this season and how his Patriots team consistently rose to the top of the AFC. Even when they aren’t blowing out other teams, they have excellent situational awareness.

Kansas City’s record in one-score games may be used by detractors to claim the team has gotten extremely lucky. There is some truth in that, no doubt. However, this is one of the most well-coached teams in the league, and the Chiefs have consistently stepped up in pressure situations over the course of this season.

The Chiefs may not have the most high-flying offense this year, but having Mahomes gives them such a high floor that they can compete with anyone in the league. The defense may be one of the three or four best in the entire league, which makes Kansas City a meatgrinder to face off against.

While it may upset casual fans to hear that Kansas City is in the pole position on their way to what could be a third straight championship run, it seems like analysts like Edelman are very bullish on what this team can do once the calendar flips to January.
