Edgerrin Cooper once again named NFC Defensive Player of the Week

GREEN BAY – Coop’s done it again.

For the second time this year, Packers rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Sunday’s 30-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks.

Cooper was previously honored as the NFC Defensive Player of Week 8 after registering eight tackles, a strip-sack and pass deflection in Green Bay’s 30-27 win over Jacksonville.

He’s the first Packers player to win NFC Defensive Player of the Week twice in a season since Clay Matthews in 2010. Cooper is also the first Packers rookie to win NFL/NFC weekly defensive award twice in the same season since its inception in 1984.

On Sunday in Seattle, Cooper recorded five tackles (two for loss) with two passes defensed, a sack and an interception in the Week 15 win over the Seahawks.

It’s the first time a Green Bay rookie has recorded a sack and interception in the same game since Esera Tuaolo in a 27-0 win over Tampa Bay on Oct. 27, 1991.

A second-round pick (No. 45 overall) out of Texas A&M, Cooper has registered 52 tackles, 3½ sacks, four passes defensed, one interception, and a forced fumble and recovery.
