Eagles-Seahawks blockbuster trade pitch sends $57 million star packing

Goedert, in the final year of a 4-year, $57 million contract with a $12 million cap hit, recorded 42 receptions for 496 yards and 2 touchdowns in 2024, despite missing 7 games due to injury. His 215 playoff yards showcased his value, but a history of missing 15 games over three seasons has raised concerns about his durability. NFL Trade Rumors’ Ethan Woodie proposed a trade to the Seattle Seahawks, suggesting they send 2025 fifth- and seventh-round picks to the Eagles in exchange for Goedert.

The Seahawks, needing pass-catchers for QB Sam Darnold after cutting Tyler Lockett and trading DK Metcalf, could benefit from Goedert’s skills. While they’ve signed Cooper Kupp and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kupp’s injury history and Valdes-Scantling’s depth role leave gaps. Seattle’s current tight ends, Noah Fant and rookie A.J. Barner, lack Goedert’s dynamism, with Fant never being a high-volume receiver despite his potential. Woodie notes Goedert could add a new dimension to the Seahawks’ offense, aiding Darnold significantly.

Given Goedert’s contract status and injury history, the trade cost is low, minimizing long-term risk for Seattle.
