Eagles Bring Back Former Coach In Surprise Move

The Philadelphia Eagles are shaking things up on their sidelines, confirming a series of coaching staff updates this Friday. While many of these moves had been buzzing around the rumor mill, one appointment turns heads for its nostalgic connection. Greg Austin, once part of the Eagles’ coaching family, is back as the new assistant offensive line coach.

Austin’s professional journey has come full circle since his initial Eagles tenure started in 2013 alongside offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland. Those were the days under the bold eye of head coach Chip Kelly.

After 2015, as the Eagles pivoted with Kelly’s departure, Austin ventured into college football. He crafted offensive line strategies at places like Central Florida, Nebraska, and Florida International.

Fast forward to 2022, and Austin was back in the NFL groove with the Jacksonville Jaguars, first tackling the role of offensive quality control coach and then stepping up as the assistant offensive line coach.

Now, Austin takes over as the Eagles’ third assistant offensive line coach in three years. This comes after Roy Istvan’s mid-2023 departure to join the Cleveland Browns, and T.J. Paganetti’s decision to link up with former Eagles’ offensive coordinator Kellen Moore at the New Orleans Saints as their run game coordinator.

Meanwhile, there’s something brewing on the defensive side. Tyler Yelk, initially serving as the assistant to the head coach, is moving up the ranks as a defensive assistant. His resume includes defensive coaching spells at Northern Illinois, Temple, and Idaho, showcasing his knack for defensive orchestration.

These changes bundle up with the already-reported hirings of Kevin Patullo as the offensive coordinator, Scot Loeffler stepping into the quarterbacks coach role, Parks Frazier handling passing game coordination, Montgomery VanGorder focused on offensive quality control, and Cole Peterson positioned as assistant to the head coach.

It’s a new chapter for the Eagles, with familiar faces ready to fuel the charge. Keep an eye on how these seasoned coaches will blend experience with innovation to make their mark in the upcoming season.
