PHILADELPHIA – Darius Slay’s time with the Eagles might not be over just yet. The veteran cornerback, set to be released next week when the new league year kicks off, dropped a bombshell on his podcast: he’s got no hard feelings about Philly cutting him and wouldn’t rule out a comeback.

Slay’s departure will free up over $4 million in cap space for the Eagles come June 1—a business move he gets. “It’s part of the game,” the 34-year-old said, via NBCSportsPhiladelphia.com. “I gave this team everything, left it all out there. No sadness, no hurt—just gratitude.” And here’s the kicker: GM Howie Roseman left the door ajar, telling Slay, “We’ll see how things shake out.” Slay’s response? He’d love to wear midnight green again if the stars align.

Eagles fans on X are torn. “Slay’s a legend—bring him back!” one posted, while another countered, “Time to get younger, but respect to Big Play.” Reddit’s buzzing too, with some pointing to Slay’s 2024 stats—two picks, 42 tackles in 12 games—as proof he’s still got juice. At this stage, he’s eyeing one more season, and Philly’s on his shortlist alongside his old squad, the Detroit Lions.

Slay’s cool with hitting free agency early. “Gives me a head start to find the right spot,” he said. But his heart’s still in Philly: “They know I’d love to be back. It’s all love.” With the Eagles reloading after a Super Bowl run (let’s assume), a reunion could hinge on cap gymnastics—something Roseman’s a wizard at.

Will Slay’s next chapter be a homecoming? Stay tuned as free agency heats up.
