The Kansas City Chiefs have clinched the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC, but not everyone will be making it to January.
The Chiefs improved to 15-1 on the year with a win over the Steelers on Christmas Day. Kansas City, which has won back-to-back Super Bowls, is set to take on Denver in the Week 18 regular season finale. Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, among other veteran players, are expected to sit out, with the team having locked up a first round playoff bye.
This week, the Chiefs decided to make a roster move, cutting ties with a veteran player, after clinching the No. 1 overall seed in the conference.
The Chiefs announced on Monday that they have terminated the contract of veteran wide receiver Montrell Washington. The 25-year-old wide receiver had been with the franchise since 2023. He was a fifth round NFL Draft pick by the Denver Broncos back in 2022.
Kansas City announced the roster move on Monday afternoon.
“We have signed LB Blake Lynch to the Practice Squad. We have terminated the Practice Squad contract of WR Montrell Washington,” the team announced.

The Chiefs should head into the playoffs as the Super Bowl favorite, though not everyone will be picking them to win Super Bowl 59.
“They’re not going to win three in a row,” Terry Bradshaw said on FOX NFL Sunday this week.
“I just think they’re going to load up against a team like Buffalo; they’re going to load up against a team like Baltimore.
“Those are the two teams that can beat them. I think it’s going to happen.”
Good luck betting against the Chiefs this year, though. They’ve seemed to have just about everything go their way in every close game this season.
But maybe Terry Bradshaw will be right and the Kansas City Chiefs’ luck will run out when it matters most in the postseason in January or February.
The Chiefs will look to cap their 2024 regular season with a win over the Broncos in Week 18. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. E.T. on Sunday. The game will air on CBS.
