Kansas City Chiefs backup quarterback Carson Wentz spent five memorable seasons in Philadelphia.
Wentz earned a Pro Bowl selection and captured a Super Bowl ring. (Yes, it counts.)
However, after a challenging final season in Philly, Wentz was traded in what he describes as a “mutual parting” from the team.
In that final season, Wentz was benched by former Eagles head coach Doug Pederson in favor of rookie Jalen Hurts, a move that marked the end of his tenure in Philadelphia.
Reflecting on that difficult chapter, Wentz spoke candidly about his departure.
“Obviously, it was a tough ending, without a doubt,” Wentz admitted. “It was the COVID year, too, so everything about it was just weird the way it kind of unfolded.”
Despite the challenges, Wentz looks back at his time in Philly with fondness.
“A lot of great memories. Buying my first house, getting married. Those are the things in life. I had my first kid when we were living in Philly,” he said.
“A lot of great memories, a lot of good times. Winning the Super Bowl was amazing. A lot of memories and friendships that I’ll have the rest of my life.”

While Wentz acknowledges that things didn’t go as planned, he holds no ill will toward the Eagles or his time there.
“There are definitely no hard feelings,” he admitted. “You wish it would have went a different way, all those things. But you can’t really kind of have any regrets on that front.”
“You be wide open and he go to the tight end… The thing about Carson [Wentz] is he didn’t listen to coaching either.”

Since leaving Philadelphia, Wentz has played for four different teams over the past four years, but his career has taken an unexpected turn.
Once an MVP candidate, he has only started nine games in the last three seasons, including just two over the past two years.
However, Wentz may soon add a second Super Bowl ring to his collection.
“I’m excited for him and his next opportunity – and hopefully he gets a chance to be a starter again, and have this resurgence like other quarterbacks,” Patrick Mahomes said of Wentz.
As the Chiefs head into Super Bowl Sunday, a victory would surely be especially sweet for Wentz if it comes against his former team.
For now, the journey from star quarterback to journeyman backup seems to have come full circle for Wentz, and he’s ready for whatever comes next.
What are your thoughts on Wentz’s comments? … Do you think he got a fair shot in Philly???
