The 2025 NFL season is officially over, and the next big event is the NFL Combine. After that, is the hectic NFL Free Agency period that will see plenty of players on new teams.
With the Kansas City Chiefs coming off a Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, plenty of changes will happen to their roster over the coming months. With the lackluster performance from the offense, that will be a primary focus to get back on track in 2025.
With just a little over $11 million currently in cap space to work with, though, they won’t be able to re-sign players, and one of them is Marquise Brown.
Marquise Brown Will Sign With the Buffalo Bills:
With Brown more than likely to not return to the Chiefs in 2025, there is one team that makes the most sense to add him. That team happens to be the Buffalo Bills.
The Kansas City Chiefs Won’t Re-Sign Marquise Brown
With the Chiefs, signing Brown in 2024 free agency was with the thought that he would be able to help be a large presence in starting and allowing them to ease the young receivers in. Instead, the injury stalled that plan, and one of the younger receivers in Xavier Worthy had to step up sooner than anticipated. While it isn’t a complete group, Worthy stepped up and made a huge impact throughout the season, and Rashee Rice has continued to develop. With the emergence between the two, it creates less of a need for the Chiefs to bring Brown back and just allow Mahomes to continue to build chemistry with Rice and Worthy.
For Brown, he suffered a sternoclavicular shoulder joint dislocation on August 11 that sidelined him until week 16. He would come back in that game and make an impact with 45 yards over a 62.5% reception rate, but over three playoff games went ghost and couldn’t go over 40 once.
With only appearing in five games, Brown accumulated just 141 yards with no touchdowns over 14 receptions. He has averaged 10.1 yards per reception and had just one drop over 28 targets. Between the lack of production and limited cap space, it would be in the best interest of Kansas City to rely on their young receivers instead.
Buffalo Bills Signing Marquise Brown
With Brown being 27, he still has years left in his prime, and will be looking to join another contending to secure a championship. That is where the Buffalo Bills come into play.
Amari Cooper was on the team just for this season as when he was traded from the Cleveland Browns he was finishing out the rest of his contract, and is now also set to be a free agent. With a wide receiver room that needs someone to emerge as the top playmaker for Josh Allen, outside of Khalil Shakir, it will cause the Bills to look at adding Brown. There is no denying that Brown can stretch the field and be a focal point in an offense, he just needs more time to recover off his injury and get back to full playing strength. With Keon Coleman still needing time to develop as well, this signing makes the most sense.
