James Cook wasn’t shy about his desires.
The Buffalo Bills running back shared early in the offseason that he wanted a contract extension worth $15 million per year.
But since then, Buffalo has extended essentially all its other important pieces and not Cook.
At Sunday’s league meetings, Bills general manager Brandon Beane said that the team engaged with Cook early in the offseason but couldn’t get any deal done.
“We moved on to the guys that we were more on the same page with,” Beane said. “At this point, it’s about the draft.”
Cook was one of the NFL’s best running backs in 2024, but it’s a fickle position leaguewide, and only the tip-top RBs seem to get paid these days.
It remains to be seen whether Cook will eventually get a reduced payday or if he’ll decide to hold out, but for now, Buffalo fans and their star running back will have to keep waiting.
