Chargers Sign Former Eagles OG Mekhi Becton to Two-Year Deal

Los Angeles, CA – March 15, 2025
The Los Angeles Chargers have bolstered their offensive line, signing former Philadelphia Eagles guard Mekhi Becton to a two-year deal, the team announced Saturday. The move adds a proven veteran to a unit that struggled mightily in 2024, as the Chargers aim to build a stronger front for the upcoming season.

Becton, 25, revitalized his career with the Eagles last year, starting 15 regular-season games and all four playoff contests, including Super Bowl LIX, at right guard. The 6-foot-7, 363-pound lineman, originally a first-round pick (11th overall) by the New York Jets in 2020, switched from tackle to guard in Philly, emerging as a key piece in their championship run. His efforts helped Saquon Barkley rush for 2,005 yards and earn NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors.

After four injury-plagued seasons with the Jets, where he started 30 games at tackle, Becton’s breakout 2024 campaign showcased his potential. Now, he joins a Chargers line featuring Pro Bowl tackle Rashawn Slater and rookie standout Joe Alt, tasked with improving an interior that ranked among the league’s worst in run block win rate last year.

Financial terms weren’t disclosed, but the signing signals GM Joe Hortiz’s intent to revamp the offense under head coach Jim Harbaugh. Becton’s arrival could pave the way for a roster shakeup, with Trey Pipkins a potential cap casualty to save $6.75 million.
