Philadelphia Eagles fans are voicing their frustration after Darius Slay made some controversial comments about the state of NFL quarterback play – particularly his omission of Jalen Hurts from his list of elite quarterbacks.
Fresh off winning the Super Bowl, the Eagles made a move that shook up their roster, releasing the six-time Pro Bowler Slay with a post-June 1 designation.
The decision, which frees up over $4 million in cap space, marked the end of Slay’s five-year tenure with the Eagles, during which he totaled 272 tackles, 56 pass break-ups, and nine interceptions.
Eagles fans I had to get clarity for y’all. I asked Darius Slay straight up, where do you want to play next year?

But Slay’s departure wasn’t the only thing causing a stir in Philadelphia.
On a recent podcast, the star cornerback discussed who he considers to be the top quarterbacks in the NFL.
According to Slay, only four quarterbacks belong in the “elite” category, and despite his years with Hurts in Philadelphia, the Eagles’ star was not among them.
“The elite goes to the top four guys. That’s how I do elites,” Slay said. “For me, elite in the quarterback world goes to Joe Burrow, [Patrick] Mahomes, Lamar [Jackson], and Josh Allen.”

While Slay’s list is difficult to argue with based on their career achievements, the omission of Hurts – fresh off winning the Super Bowl and taking home MVP honors – left many fans in Philly feeling slighted.
This latest comment from Slay isn’t the first time this week he’s been accused of disrespecting a former teammate.
Earlier, he appeared to snub Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson when discussing the leadership of the secondary. Slay expressed doubts about the leadership of certain players, calling out younger members of the team.
“I’m going to be surprised if Reed and them guys like Reed can, you know, advance these guys. Reed been around me and a lot of other veterans that been here before. And I’m sure he could lead that group the right way,” Slay said.
“I do got a great leadership role in that, in that secondary room. I’m going to be surprised if Reed and them guys like Reed can, you know, advance these guys. Reed been around me and a lot of other veterans that been here before. And I’m sure he could lead that group the right way.”
Gardner-Johnson didn’t take kindly to the comments and called Slay out on social media, prompting the veteran cornerback to clarify his stance.
“We just won a Super Bowl together. I do not have no problem or hate towards bra. Reed is in our leadership council which is why I said what I said. I would expect him to be the next guy up. It’s nothing but love on my end if you really know me.. Y’all have a blessed day,” Slay responded.
Getting back to the Hurts “snub” … It’s safe to assume that Jalen isn’t too bothered by it. Nor should he be. After all, most fans wouldn’t have Hurts ranked as a top-four quarterback anyways.
At the end of the day, Slay was just being honest with his take on who the elite quarterbacks are in the league.
Having said that, what are your thoughts on the matter? … Should Hurts (or Gardner-Johnson) feel disrespected???
