Daniel Jeremiah projects 49ers to bolster secondary in latest mock draft

“Teams love big, fluid cornerbacks with ball production and that is exactly what Johnson offers,” NFL Media analyst Lance Zierlein wrote in his draft profile of Johnson. “He’s instinctive and plays with good body control and change of direction in space. He can play man coverage, but he’s at his best when playing with his eyes forward instead of chasing routes downfield.

“Johnson displays good pre-snap recognition and can read and anticipate routes/throws at a high level. While he plays the role of thief in coverage, he needs to balance that mentality with a healthy respect for NFL route runners. He has coveted traits and his areas of concern don’t stand out as significant impediments to what could become a long, successful career as a future Pro Bowler.”

NFL Draft: 49ers met with Washington WR Jeremiah Hunter at the Tropical Bowl

“Hunter (6-2, 200) spent three seasons with the California Golden Bears before transferring to the Washington Huskies. This past season, he recorded 36 catches for 490 yards and one touchdown. In his final season with the Golden Bears, he had 63 receptions for 731 yards and seven touchdowns.

Over four collegiate seasons, Hunter has recorded 180 receptions for 2,574 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging 14.3 yards per catch.

49ers release Flannigan-Fowles; tender contracts to seven players

“San Francisco released veteran linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles and tendered one-year contracts to seven players, including defensive linemen Evan Anderson, Alex Barrett, Sam Okuayinonu, linebacker Jalen Graham, offensive lineman Austen Pleasants and tight ends Jake Tonges and Brayden Willis, the team announced in a statement.

Flannigan-Fowles originally signed to San Francisco’s practice squad as an undrafted free agent in 2019, and in five seasons with the team from 2020-2024, recorded 96 combined tackles, three passes defensed, one interception, one sack and one quarterback hit in 73 career games (seven starts).”

Will 49ers extend George Kittle after a quietly good 2024?

“As the San Francisco 49ers went their separate ways for the bye week in late October, quarterback Brock Purdy and tight end George Kittle, along with their significant others, boarded a flight to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, for a quick getaway.

Purdy and Kittle didn’t plan to spend the week together, save for a round of golf, but, unbeknownst to each other, they also brought one must-have item.

“He was like, ‘Hey, I brought a football,’” Purdy said. “And I was like, ‘So did I.’ Just in case.”

Purdy and Kittle didn’t hold any impromptu throwing sessions on that trip, but their connection took another significant step forward on the field in 2024, and it’s one they’d like to keep going into 2025 and beyond.”

49ers reunite with free agent CB, get 1st round steal in dream offseason

“Mason Cameron writes that the 49ers should sign free agent cornerback D.J. Reed and draft LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell.”
