The Green Bay Packers are 10-4 and in prime position to make the NFL Playoffs for the second year in a row and the fourth time in head coach Matt LaFleur‘s five seasons. A win on Monday Night Football over the New Orleans Saints will clinch a postseason berth for Green Bay in what has been a highly successful season up to this point.
Part of the reason for Green Bay’s improved regular season has been the play of their defense under new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley. Currently, the Packers have the eighth-best scoring defense in the NFL (20.5 points allowed per game) and are 10th in yards allowed per game (321.8).
It has not always been easy getting the defense to play well. Injuries to star players like Jaire Alexander and Quay Walker have hurt the team’s depth. But Green Bay has, fortunately, used a great deal of draft capital on the defensive side of the ball, and a few young players are starting to emerge as future big-time stars at their respective positions
