The Green Bay Packers have signed Michael Jordan to their practice squad.
But before Chicago sports fans bemoan the most legendary athlete in city history going to the city’s most hated rival, relax: It’s not THAT Michael Jordan.
For one, he didn’t play football. For another, he’s 61 years old.
No, the Michael Jordan the Packers signed in a transaction the team announced Monday is very different from “Air Jordan.” He’s a 26-year-old offensive lineman and weighs 315 pounds, much younger and much bigger than the more famous Michael Jordan.
Although at 6-foot-6, they’re the same height.
Anyway, the football Michael Jordan played his college ball at Ohio State and is in his fifth professional season. He spent most of the 2023 season on the Packers’ practice squad then joined the New England Patriots.
He played in 12 games and started 11 for the Patriots this season, but they released him earlier this month, and the Packers brought him back to their practice squad.
And if you’re wondering, the football Michael Jordan played his first NFL game in Chicago just a month ago. He started along the Patriots’ offensive line in their 19-3 win over the Bears at Soldier Field on Nov. 10.
