The Philadelphia Eagles are gearing up for another postseason run after soaring over the competition during the 2024 regular season.
It was another successful campaign for Nick Sirianni & Co., who will enter the NFL playoffs as the NFC’s No. 2 seed. Performing as one of the best teams on both sides of the ball solidified the Eagles as Super Bowl threats this postseason, leaving time to tell if they can hoist the Lombardi Trophy after failing to do so at State Farm Stadium two years ago.
Although the postseason is the most exciting time of the NFL schedule, it’s a bittersweet period for some players. The offseason will begin as soon as the playoffs wrap up, meaning certain Eagles are experiencing what will likely be their final weeks spent in the City of Brotherly Love.
With that being said, here are five players who are entering their final playoff run with the Eagles.
1. Kenneth Gainwell, RB
The 2024 campaign marked Kenneth Gainwell’s fourth with the Eagles after being drafted 150th overall by the franchise in 2020. Although he won’t put on performances similar to Saquon Barkley, the veteran running back has been a reliable backup option who can help both as a runner and pass-catcher.
Unfortunately, Barkley’s arrival and three-down reliability have caused Gainwell’s role to shrink this season. The ex-Memphis Tiger isn’t being used nearly as much this season compared to 2023. Entering Week 18, he saw his offensive snap share drop from 41% to 25%. He’d also only averaged 4.9 touches per game compared to 7.1 last year, resulting in a career-low in total scrimmage yards.
With Barkley leading the backfield, Gainwell has become expendable this offseason. The 25-year-old RB is set to hit free agency in March and will likely be looking for a pay raise now that he’ll be off his rookie contract. If the Eagles don’t believe he’s worth the extra cash, they could replace him with a cheaper option through the NFL draft.
Hopefully, Gainwell can find a role to play in the upcoming offseason. Eagles fans might not get another chance to see another playoff run out of him anyway.
